Over 60 adverts and 4 years after Apple first started taking a dig at PC users, Microsoft has decided enough is enough and has added a brand new section to the Windows 7 site which directly compares a PC against a Mac.
After almost 4 years of windows persecution from Apple, Microsoft appears to be fighting back (finally) and uses a number of PC components to demonstrate the point that a windows based computer is better than a Mac. It makes some good points too, after all, you wont find a Blu-ray player, TV tuner or a memory stick reader for a Mac. Microsoft also points out the Mac’s lack of built in 3G wireless, but then not every PC has it built in either.
Of course, all of this is true to a degree but we also know that inside a Mac beats the heart of an Intel processor, so you won’t be surprised to hear they havent covered this but they do bang on about the lack of gaming software for the Apple built machines. Whilst broadly true, it has to be said that Mac users have been given more and more gaming software in recent years, even old favourites like Counter Strike Source got a revamp last month so they would work on a Mac natively, so perhaps this part is a moot point.
It’s also worth considering that Microsoft makes a version of Office for the Mac and it’s hardly free of charge is it…
When you look at the page, its clear the PC comes out on top, but we arent even measuring against the things a Mac does do exceptionally well. If you want it for fun, media and the occasional web surfing then obviously you are going to be choosing from a range of Desktop PCs But if you have only business in mind, particularly graphic design, web design or hardcore movie editing, then a Mac would be your best friend.
Is this any different to how its always been, we think not, so its an odd move by Microsoft to feel the need to point all of this out to us, perhaps they are scared of the in roads to the market being made by Apple after all?
